Dr. Ivan Batún

Dr. Iván Batún serves as the Principal Investigator of the Research Program at the Maya Heritage Center and is a Professor at Universidad de Oriente. With a robust academic background—including a Bachelor’s degree in Anthropological Sciences, a Master’s in Archaeology, and a Ph.D. in Anthropology with a specialization in Cultural Resource Management—Dr. Batún stands out as a distinguished scholar with deep expertise in the cultural and archaeological landscapes of the Maya world.

Under his leadership, the organization is preparing to launch bio-cultural expeditions that explore lesser-known archaeological sites and the natural environments of Quintana Roo and Yucatán. These expeditions reflect a seamless extension of Dr. Batún’s academic work, offering participants a unique and immersive experience into the living legacy of Maya culture.

With over eight years of transnational experience spanning the United States and Mexico, Dr. Batún brings an international perspective to his research and teaching. His accreditation of archaeologists ensures the program’s credibility and academic integrity, providing participants with an authentic, insightful, and professionally guided exploration of the region’s cultural heritage.
