Juan Pablo Reyes López is the Agricultural Project Director at the Maya Heritage Center, where he leads the design, training, and implementation of sustainable food production systems in Maya communities across Yucatán and Quintana Roo. A technical specialist in hydroponic and vertical farming systems, he plays a central role in advancing the Center’s Agritech Innovation Program, supporting food sovereignty through climate-resilient agricultural models.
Originally from Apetatitlán de Antonio Carvajal, Tlaxcala, Juan Pablo holds a vocational degree in Renewable Energies and Plant Nutrition from the Agrosol Center, where he trained under noted agronomist Jürgen Glaeser Claus. His professional journey includes coordination of the “Cultiva Tu Propio Alimento” program for DIF Jilotepec, and leadership in dual education, eco-construction, and farm management initiatives.
Juan Pablo is also affiliated with Hidrocultura Sustentable A.C., through which he has promoted sustainable agriculture by training rural and Indigenous farmers to transition from chemical inputs to organic alternatives. His work includes the design and installation of hydroponic and aquaponic systems, and the application of renewable energy technologies for self-sufficient agricultural development.
At the Maya Heritage Center, he has successfully launched agricultural training programs in Lázaro Cárdenas and Leona Vicario, developing monitoring systems to optimize water and nutrient use, while ensuring that technologies introduced are culturally appropriate, scalable, and sustainable.
With more than 20 years of experience, Juan Pablo brings a deep understanding of Indigenous perspectives, a strong commitment to community empowerment, and a proven ability to bridge traditional knowledge with innovative technologies. His leadership continues to strengthen local resilience and promote regenerative agriculture in the Maya region.
