Bio-Expeditions & Botanical Adventures
This cultural program invites visitors to explore the past and present of Maya communities through personalized bio-expeditions. Discover cacao cultivation, honey production with Maya stingless bees, and the traditional chewing-gum-making process. These experiences help Maya descendants reconnect with their roots while learning from anthropologists, biologists, and community leaders.
The program includes guided day activities in the Botanical Garden of Puerto Morelos and outdoor expeditions to Classic and Postclassic Maya sites. (Fee-based program.)
Amaru

Uncover the roots of ancient Maya writing through this immersive workshop led by Linguist Alfredo Hau, a respected epigrapher and cultural educator. ChĂikulal Ăşuchben ts’Ăib—meaning “Roots of Ancient Writing” in Yucatec Maya—invites participants to explore the structure, beauty, and meaning of the Maya script as a living form of cultural expression.
Through engaging lectures and guided practice, participants learn to recognize and draw glyphs, understand how they convey time, names, and ceremony, and create their own personalized cartouche.
This workshop bridges past and present, connecting participants with the ancestral wisdom embedded in the written traditions of the Maya world.
